U-3A Liaison Aircraft
U-3A Liaison Aircraft

* History
 The U-3A, made by the Cessna Co. of the US, is a type of small-sized 310A air transportation aircraft for military use. Its original model was L-27A-CE, renamed as U-3A in 1962 after the reprogramming of the US aircraft models. It served as a general liaison aircraft.

 In early 1960s, U-3As arrived in Taiwan with the U-2C high-altitude surveillance aircrafts. Then the aircraft were enrolled to the 35th squadron for takeoff and landing route training of U-2 pilots. But U-3A still belonged to the US military property. After the end of the 35th Squadron’s U-2 missions, the US military hand over U-2s to the ROC Air Force for the Air Force Special Mission Squadron use. It was given the serial number 3601. After it was retired in 1981, it was presented as a gift to Fengjia University for teaching, and was returned to Air Force on April 26, 1997. It was then received by the ROC Air Force Museum for exhibition.

 U-3A uses two 1,200 hp 0-470-M reciprocating engines. Its wingspan is 10.3 meters, aircraft length is 9.02 meters, aircraft height is 3.02 meters, wing area is 16.2 square meters, bare weight is 3,037 pounds, total weight is 4,600 pounds, service ceiling is 21,300 feet, range is 717 nautical miles, maximum speed is 202 nautical miles per hour, cruise speed is 191 nautical miles per 8,000 feet, and climbing rate is 1,800 feet per minute. It can carry one crew member and four passengers.
