History
The F-104D was designed and made by the Lockheed Co. of the US with total number of 22. It is a two-seated trainer fighter developed from the F-104C. The ROCAF had purchased six F-104Ds from the US in 1975 to join the F-104 fleet and handed out to 427th Regiment for use until the last one was retired on November 15, 1988. Its contribution during last ten or more years is to support all kinds of missions of operations, exercises, and training. The total flying time of this aircraft is 49,550 hours. It was retired in 1986 and then sent to the Air Force Technical School for exhibition, and finally moved to the Air Force Museum on August 23, 1998. The F-104D uses a J79-GE-11 axial-flow engine with a maximum thrust power of 15,800 pounds (afterburner included). Its service ceiling is 55,000 feet, wingspan is 21 feet 11 inches, aircraft length is 54 feet 9 inches, and gross weight is 27,011 pounds.
