The Chair of the Department of Aviation Management at R.O.C. Air Force Academy, Hsing-Ling Wang, attended the 25th Ergonomics Society of Taiwan Annual Meeting and International Conference hosted by National Tsing Hua University on March 18, 2018. He served as a commentator in the panel discussion on Ergonomics and National Defense. He discussed with experts and scholars from around the world how the R.O.C. Armed Forces foster the development of ergonomic technology in the field of national defense, whereby the benefits of ergonomic technology can be brought into play and national security achieved. Chair Wang and Chia-Sheng Hu, the Deputy Director of the Naval Planning Division, pointed out that air and naval forces have their respective specific requirements regarding weapon systems. “Human” capabilities and limitations have to be taken into consideration in terms of system, procedure, environment, and management during the process of designing and manufacturing said systems, in order to minimize the occurrence of accidents caused by human factors like the “Hsiung Feng III missile misfire incident,” or to avoid missing the timing for operations due to their complicated design. Moreover, the conditions of navigating at sea or flying in the sky have to be explored to prevent land-based weapon systems from being unusable in special operating environment (source: Youth Daily News).
