DATE:2024-05-20

With Mother’s Day fast approaching, Major General Hu, the Principal of the Air Force Academy, presented the Air Force’s 2024 Model Mothers with congratulatory plaques and gifts on behalf of the Commander-in-Chief on May 9. The Academy’s Model Mother award went to Mrs. Mei-Huei Chen, the mother of Sgt. Jia-Hua Liu from the Services Company.

Mrs. Chen taught her two sons the importance of “serving the country and giving back to society” from an early age. She overcame the disadvantages of being a single parent and showed how true “being a mother makes you stronger” is. Her eldest son Maj. Chuan-Xian Liu is now a Chief Counselor. Her younger son Sgt. Jia-Hua Liu is a squad leader with the Academy’s Service Company. Both have won praise from their superiors for their performance.

Maj. Gen. Hu thanked Mrs. Chen for raising two young and capable sons for the Armed Forces. He noted that the sons also spend their leave keeping their mother company. They have therefore demonstrated their filial piety by expressing their gratitude to their mother through their actions. Maj. Gen. Hu hoped that everyone will put filial piety before and demonstrate gratitude at all times, thus the event served as an opportunity to thank all mothers in the world and wish them a happy Mother’s Day.
